By the year 2014, you have to have health insurance or you’ll be fined by the government! A bold statement to be sure, however, with the new healthcare law being enacted is exactly what will happen if you don’t have at least some affordable health insurance.
The new healthcare law created by President Obama called The Patient Protection and Affordable Care Act (PPACA), informally known as Obamacare, will fine you $95 in 2014 if you don’t have health insurance, cheap or otherwise. In 2015, the fine will be $350 and $750 in 2016. They call it Shared Responsibility. That means you have to carry health insurance by 2014 or you will receive a fine. However, there are a few exceptions to this law.
If you have a religious objections to carrying health insurance, those who can’t afford it, taxpayers with income less than 100% FPL (Federal Poverty Level), Indian tribe members, or those who have applied for and received a hardship waiver. The exception also covers people out of the country or “individuals not lawfully present”, people in jail, and people not covered for three months or less.
Now’s the time to start looking for affordable health insurance, so you have some coverage in healthcare before this law is enacted. This new law is supposed to make healthcare more affordable for all Americans. This program is fully covered by the government to provide healthcare for 94% of the population of the United States. It has a limit of $900 billion set up by President Obama to reduce America deficit and curb the health care costs.
A lot of people oppose this law saying affordable health insurance is more than they can afford. Not to mention the government interfering in people’s lives forcing them to have something that should be a choice. However, finding affordable health insurance is not going to be easy. The new law won’t be enacted until 2014 and they have a grandfather clause, but you’ll still have trouble finding affordable health insurance.
There will be many people who can’t afford insurance and some who don’t want it, whether it costs money or not. They also believe the government should not force them to carry a health insurance plan. Of course, there isn’t enough information to find out whether the state plans will have enough coverage or not. It will be hardest on self-employed individuals and the unemployed. They don’t have access to group plans.
The best you can do now is to find affordable health insurance, so you’re covered when the law is enacted in 2014. There will be some changes in the healthcare insurance industry for the policies they offer now. So look around for some affordable health insurance plans that have a high deductible, so your payments will be lower.
